Moth Wing Capelet Sewing Pattern
The Moth Wing Capelet is a short quilted cape with upper and lower wings and was designed for playing moth dress up!
This is a multisize pattern which requires only one measurement. It can be easily scaled to fit a range of sizes from toys to adults. The capelet finishes around the hip and the wings spread down the length of the arm. Press studs positioned near the wrist give the feeling of a sleeve without being restrictive, making the capelet feel like a cosy jacket.
The pattern is supplied in print format and projector format with very simple instructions on how to scale it to the required size. No technical knowledge or special software is required, calibrate by simply changing the scale percentage for printing or the zoom percentage for projecting*.
The capelet was designed with quilting in mind and needs a layer of wadding for structure, whether you quilt the wings yourself or use a pre-quilted fabric is up to you. The pattern is a perfect opportunity to use up scrap fabrics, remnants and even have a play with crumb quilting. Raid your textile stash to see what you can use.
I have included the linework for the design I added to my daughters capelet to give you a place to start. By changing fabrics, applique patches and embellishments each capelet can be personalised and unique. I have made you a moodboard of moth images for design inspiration.
